Oh Demon City. : )

This post is coming a little bit late, but midterms attacked me.

A while ago I got an email from Das Bunker, an industrial club on fridays in Hollywood. It's a pretty fun club and the email was talking about Demon City, their pre-Halloween party. The main event of the night was a concert from someone they couldn't name until the week of the show. I don't know about you, but whenever there is a "secret" show, of course i'm going to be there!!!

Lucky for me, I am part of Combichrist's little... army? and figured out they were the ones performing. That pumped me up even more, because I really enjoy a lot of Combichrist. I set up my outfit for the show, and treated myself to a few new things.

For some reason I thought that the doors opened at 6 or so, but that didn't seem to be the case. We got there about 2 hours early. It was a long time to wait in line, so we ended up making a few friends along the way. The group of kids behind us ended up talking to some drunk old guys, who WOULDN'T LEAVE. It was pretty hilarious when he began to serenade us with a harmonica.. Singing Ozzy. After trying our hardest not to laugh out loud at these guys and various people throwing up on the sidewalk, we made it inside.
They didn't do to bad of a job setting up for Demon City. There were lots of Halloween themed decorations in celebration and such. The main stage was definitely the best for me, they were spinning a bunch of harsh EBM. : D  I danced for a couple hours before Combichrist came on stage at 12. They did an excellent set considering the difficulties. Das Bunker isn't normally a concert venue, so they have to hire everything out. Apparently they didn't get enough stuff, or on time for that matter. But Combi didn't disappoint.
The makeup was amazing!! Andy looked nothing like he normally did. I suggest looking up some pictures from the show. He actually looked like some kind of zombiething. Very entertaining. They also did 2 encores because we wouldn't leave. THIS SHIT WILL FUCK YOU UP!!!!
When they finished their set, I made my way to the merch table to grab some goodies. Left with a limited edition poster!!!!! wooo!!!!! It's currently getting framed. I know, if you actually think about it its pretty sad.... Nahhhh. I'll post a picture of it maybe today. Just so you all can be jealous of me. : )

The drive home was pretty shitty cause I was so tired from dancing, but i'll be back at Das Bunker very soon.

KMFDM

So pretty recently my friend Dylan and I went down to LA to see KMFDM's 25th anniversary concert. Of course we have to write something up in here, so I figured I would have him do a little guest write up. Enjoy.. And thanks Dylan!!

As im sure most of you are aware of KMFDM's 25th anniversary tour and it passing through Comi-fornia... and for all of those who missed the show, you TRUELY missed out. Angel Spit was a great opener, their stage presence was spectacular, even if u dont listen to their music religiously you cant help but love them live.
But now onto the band we all know and love KMFDM, if you dont love em... go eat shit and die. I have been listening to their music for almost 6 years now, granted that is not a long time of their existence, and entitles me to no bragging rights, i am still a die hard fan and as far as i know it i'm their biggest fan hahaha. but seriously now they are an incredible band in studio BUT live they are even Better! this concert helped remind me why i love this music so much, the music was fast and hit hard. Sascha blew face off while leading off with WWIII and then continuing through a playlist that hit every song i ever idolized them for. And for the few people in crowd who didn't necessarily like the band couldn't help but enjoy the on stage presence of KMFDM especially when megalomaniac wooed the entire venue... i'm not sure i can ever describe the shear amazingness of this concert. i have enjoyed them for 6, glad they have been around for 25 and i will be their for their 50th anniversary tour 2034... ill be waiting

Industrial Elistism

Everyone's experienced it. And to a point we all have our own elitism when it comes to our music. Thats why we pick it, right? It's better than the rest haha.
The problem comes when people treat you like shit because they don't agree with your choice. Anyone that's been on forums sees the rants about these fuckheads.

It always seems to go like this:
You're somewhere and someone starts talking about music to you.
Them: "You like industrial"
You: "Definitely, you?"
Them: "hah, no way. Too mainstream for me. Do you listen to *insert intelligible band name here*?"
You: "umm... no?"
Them: "Oh, you're just another poser."

Don't you hate that? Makes me so angry. ugh.

I listen to a lot of stuff that people can judge this way.. So in turn I try not to do anything like this. Everyone has their reasons for enjoying a certain music. AHHHHHH.

so go ahead and rant on here about them for me... I have to try and study. : P

Since I don't have many hardcore followers

I know better than anyone. This is a brand new blog, and no one knows about it. I do need help spreading the word, because word of mouth is often the best helper. If anyone likes this, tell someone else that might.
Today I definitely feel like talking about bands I call "borderline bands".
These are the bands that everyone has LOVES to argue whether they are "industrial" or not. All people have their own opinion on whether they count or not.
Regardless. The one's I feel like talking about definitely have certain industrial elements to them.

For this post I picked one of my favorite bands. Static-x

I started listening to Static-x quite a long time ago. I can't even remember where I initially heard them, but the earliest memory was listening to them on my way to my first dirtbiking trip. The first album I has was "Start a War" and oh man did I have fun with it. Even I can agree that it really in no way can be considered industrial, but Static-x undoubtedly has industrial influences.

Any real listening Can recognize the heavy metallic sounds in the background... Starting the songs with lots of electronic beats. Their harsh, fast paced vocals and pounding bass. Lots of distortion also lends them to the "industrial metal" catagory.

In their most recent cd, "Cult of Static" Wayne Static leaned more away from the industrial feel. I still enjoy almost the whole cd, but it didn't have the same brutal feeling. What I keep wondering about is whether they will keep heading in that direction, or return to more industrial metal.

Leaving modern rock

So one of the biggest reasons that I deviated from listening to American modern rock was what I considered a lack of talent. Most of the bands I ended up hearing didn’t have real melody with their voice. Granted, they were excellent at screaming in a high-pitched voice normally reserved for girls. This really didn’t work for me. So instead I looked for foreign bands that could give me what I wanted.

After a bit of searching around I ended up with Oomph and Eisbrecher. Now I love these bands. Both are quite talented and filled that gap that modern rock was leaving me with. At the time I really didn’t know how well known these bands were, but I found out quite quickly.

Eisbrecher is definitely the lesser known of the two, but not for any lack of talent. Eisbrecher is formed around two main people, Alexx Wesselsky and Noel Pix. Both left the band Megaherz because of creative differences and created the music project Eisbrecher. Known for performing shows in naval and military attire, Alexx brings a very strong presence to the stage. Watching him on stage, one can’t help but be brought to dance and sing. This was the case when I saw him perform at Amphi Festival ’09. The small stage that they were performing at was inside, and completely packed. Many people never actually made it inside to watch this spectacular performance. One thing I have noticed from many concerts is that hearing it in person can be completely different from a cd. This wasn’t the case. Alexx’s vocals hit perfectly and the whole set went without a single problem. I can’t wait to get back over to Germany to see them perform again. I know they won’t disappoint.

Make sure you check out their website!

Now for one of my favorite bands. They are considered the first of their kind, and even inspired Rammstein to follow their style. They incorporate many different styles into their music, going from fast upbeat songs to slow ballad-like ones. Oomph’s long career of twenty years has made for many changes in their music over time. One of the most disappointing things that I find in bands is when their style changes so much that I no longer enjoy them. This was not the case with Oomph. In the beginning of Oomph’s career their music was definitely more harsh and heavy hitting, but I really enjoy the melodic way they went. They still have parts of songs that let you know they remember their old style. The band has never had anyone leave the band, making Dero, Flux, and Crap the original founders. These guys put on an amazing show and absolutely love their fans. I must say, seeing Dero repeatedly stage dive is pretty epic. He did the whole show in a straightjacket as well. That is one concert that all of you should see at least once in your life. And on that note I implore everyone to check out their site right….. NOW.

Nine Inch Nails fertig?

As I said before, i'm not just limiting this site to the deep underground stuff.

Nine Inch Nails. Everyone knows them, and most of you have probably seen them play. I sadly did not manage to make it to any of their concerts. I know, shame on me right?
Even though I work at a radio station and usually know what is going on with a band that big I didn't hear until very recently about their final tour. I couldn't believe that it took me that long to hear, but I can't say that I am surprised. When you are in the business for 20 years, you need some long breaks. One thing that I can't see happening is that NIN will be done forever. For someone like Mr. Trent Reznor, there is no such thing as an end. It's in his blood, and he won't be able to help but come back to his fans.

A good detox might help with some of the music. I can say for sure that I am a much bigger fan of his older stuff. The broken film was genius. It's a bit intense at some points, but if you havn't seen it yet you must watch it. I would love to see Trent produce some more stuff like that. But as usual bands evolve and don't usually go back to old styles.

Fear not. They will return.

First Post

Hey everyone. Just a quick little intro. This is a blog for all of us that enjoy some hard hitting industrial music. But i'm not going to stop there. I'm making this is a place for all dark music. Gothic, Industrial-metal, mainstream and underground. Just any music that fits in here.

Everything in here is MY opinion. If you dont really agree with me, drop me an email saying why and I quite possibly will add it up here.

This should be a lot of fun. Depending how this goes, I will see what else i can add and do.
